Making History in Converse

One of the more invigorating presentations at the Serious Games Summit at the 06 GDC, San Jose, was David McDivitt's detailed explanation of how his use of Muzzy Lane's "Making History" game has affected his course, his students, and the his outlook on the future of teaching Millennials.

What I found to be particularly exciting is that this is a report "from the trenches", David is a teacher and coach - not a game designer/developer or educational researcher. He explains how he used the game-based learning activity to augment his classroom instruction, what it takes to make that work well for his students, and his initial assessment of the impact.

You can read a recap of David's presentation in this article published on Serious Games Source.

Dimenxian Demo Available

Tabula Digita has a playable demo of their new game "Dimenxian" available for free download.

If you have not yet had an opportunity to read about their project, they also have a complete brochure site that explains the project and their supporting research to date.

Their presentations at the Serious Game Summit [2006 - San Jose] were very impressive, and this playable demo is a significant step forward in the digital game-based learning arena as a model for small studio commercial viability.

Very, very cool.
